Double-Column Band Saw Machines
A double-column band saw clamps the work in a hydraulic vise and feeds the blade frame down two vertical columns, so the cut stays square through thick bar, tube and blocks. PCL semi-automatic models cut round stock from Ø300 to Ø650 mm and rectangles up to 800 × 650 mm, with 3 to 7.5 kW main motors.

How the machine is built
Double column with gantry crossbeam
On the BS-500 frame, two Ø140 mm columns are tied by a crossbeam, spreading the load evenly so the saw frame stays square as it feeds down.
Hydraulic vise and feed
The work is held in a hydraulic vise. Down-feed is hydraulic, with a governor knob to set feed rate for each material.
Worm-gear drive
The blade wheel is driven through a worm gearbox for steady torque at low blade speed.
Blade cleaning and coolant
A rotating wire brush clears chips from the teeth and flood coolant cools the cut, which extends blade life.
Blade guard
A cover around the exposed blade protects the operator and reduces noise and coolant spray.
Bundle cutting
Raised vise jaws with a top pressure clamp let you cut several bars or tubes in one pass.

Typical uses
Steel stockholders cutting bar and tube to order, machine shops preparing blanks, and fabrication shops cutting square tube, channel and angle to length. For angled cuts use a miter band saw; for unattended repeat cuts use a CNC automatic band saw.

Frequently asked questions
What does semi-automatic mean on a band saw?
You load and position the material by hand, then the saw clamps it in the hydraulic vise, feeds the blade down, and returns to the top after the cut. For hands-off repeat cutting, see our CNC automatic band saws.
What is the difference between BS-500 and BS-500W?
Both cut round bar up to Ø500 mm. The BS-500W has a wider throat, so it cuts rectangles up to 700 × 500 mm instead of 500 × 500 mm, which suits wide plate stacks and broad sections.
How straight is the cut?
On the BS-500 the cut stays within ±0.2 mm over 100 mm of cut height, measured as straightness of the cut face, when the blade is correctly tensioned and in good condition.
Is hydraulic blade tensioning worth adding?
Yes for production work. It keeps blade tension constant through the cut, which improves straightness and blade life. It is optional up to BS-600 and standard on BS-650 and BS-650W.
Can the double-column saw cut angles?
No, it cuts at 90° only. For angled cuts choose a miter band saw, which swivels 0–45° or 0–60°.
